Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the founder of DancED. I am a fully qualified Primary School Teacher, completing my NQT and RQT years, as well as holding an upper class BA Hons degree in Dance and Performance and 90 Masters credits in Education.
During 2014 just after I graduated from my dance degree I became a Learning Support Assistant in a primary school. Through this role I began to coach dance and cheerleading in after school clubs and I LOVED IT! I then progressed to supporting the end of year production and within PE, helping to teach the dance curriculum. This was when I realised that dance is an area of the curriculum which has very little expertise, understanding or time given to it. This made me want to make a difference and enhance the delivery of dance in primary schools because I know of the powerful benefits dance can have.
After living my dream as a professional dancer and being lucky enough to live in Australia as an Au Pair for 2 years, the idea was still in the back of my mind. When I arrived home in 2019, I spoke to my previous headteacher and he advised me to gain my qualification as a teacher, to help me build and expand my skill set, which would enable me to deliver the best dance education and service to schools in and around Leicestershire. So, that's what I did!
Since then, I have absolutely loved teaching and enjoy my time in the classroom with my class; engaging them, inspiring them and helping them grow. Over the last few years I have grown immeasurably as a professional and as a teacher, but the idea of merging my two passions has never left my mind. I've done all the upskilling and growing I can and now is the time to make my dream into a reality. This September I will be launching dancED in Leicestershire and surrounding areas to bring the joy of dance and quality first teaching of the dance curriculum into schools.
